Heartened by our first year of service

Today marks the 1-year anniversary of SF New Deal. Our organization grew from an urgent need to support small businesses and food insecure neighbors as COVID-19 began to spread across our city. A year later, we’re filled with hope and optimism, both by the promise of vaccines and by the strength we’ve seen over the past year as the community has come together in a collective show of solidarity and action.

As we reflect on our first year in operation, and the $20,000,000 we’ve been able to distribute to the community, we are filled with pride. Together, with the 184 small businesses we serve, we’ve delivered the 1,800,000 meals for neighbors in need.

Food insecurity and the difficult circumstances faced by small businesses in San Francisco were not brought on by the pandemic. Both challenges were exacerbated by the events of the previous year, and will continue to persist through recovery and into the future.

We remain committed to providing supportive services and financial opportunities for small businesses in San Francisco. We will continue to address both the symptoms and root causes of inequity by building pathways which connect local business owners, workers, community leaders, and neighbors in need, for the benefit of the entire city.

Thank you for being a part of this journey, and for helping us to build a new model of community care.

Please consider donating to support the work that remains to be done.

With respect and in solidarity,

Lenore Estrada & Jacob Bindman
